Brandenburg 5 and the harpsichord solo

Bach’s fifth Brandenburg Concerto has a massive harpsichord solo during the end of the first movement lasting nearly 5 minutes, proportionately it is at odds with the rest of the movement but it somehow works! Below are three drastically different performances by Apollos Fire an excellent baroque ensemble from Cleveland, Karl Richter and the pianist Glenn Gould.

Enjoy!
